63751 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Associate Minister of Health: Further to Reply 58007, has the Minister done any advocacy to promote training and qualification opportunities, to families who may benefit from them; if so, what, if anything, did this comprise of?
Hon Casey Costello: Around 20 percent of carers are aged 65+ and older people often benefit from the care that family members, whānau, friends and neighbours provide. I have used speaking opportunities to highlight the significant contributions carers make. I am advised that there is an action in the Carer's Strategy and Action Plan focused on supporting flexible study, training and education opportunities. This action is led by the Ministry of Social Development in partnership with the Carers Alliance. Minister Simmonds is best placed to provide updates on Mahi Aroha.
