Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter April to June 2024 to ‘Develop fast-tracked diagnostic pathways for priority cancers’ under Outcome 4: New Zealanders have better cancer survival, supportive care and end-of-life care, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, the following progress was made: • Work continued on the Abnormal Uterine Bleeding Pathway. • Work continued on the development Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) for Symptomatic pathway. • Work continued on the development of the National Cancer Clinical Network -- including agreed terms of reference -- which will serve both Health New Zealand and the Cancer Control Agency. • Improvements were made at a district level to improve access to diagnostics for patients with a high suspicion of, or confirmed, cancer. • Work continued on the establishment of the radiology transformation programme.
