62501 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education

Written Question
Published date: 11 Oct 2024
62501 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: How many, if any, secondary teachers graduate teacher education proficient enough in te reo Māori to be able to teach it, listed by graduation cohorts and as a percentage of total?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that it does not collect information on the te reo Māori proficiency of primary or secondary initial teacher education (ITE) graduates. However, I refer the Member to the information available on the Education Counts website showing the number of teacher graduates graduating from Māori Medium Initial Teacher Education, by year, and by sector: https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/statistics/initial-teacher-education-statistics. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 62503 (2024).
