Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Does the Minister see a need for increasing the rate and scope of camera installation on vessels, given dolphin captures are being reported at nearly seven times the previous rate since the introduction of on-board cameras, and if not, why not?

Hon Shane Jones: No. On-board cameras have already been installed on vessels that represent the highest risk to Hector’s and Maui dolphins. The remaining rollout will see on-board cameras installed on further vessels that operate in areas with the potential for interaction with dolphin species.
