Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Transport: What are the ‘range of factors behind improving road safety on our roads’, that the Minister referred to in One New’s Story on the 16th September 2024, and are any of those factors increasing speed limits in residential areas or around schools?

Hon Simeon Brown: The range of factors behind improving road safety I was referring to includes investing in new and safe Roads of National Significance and increasing road policing and enforcement that targets the most high-risk times, behaviours, and locations. This includes increasing alcohol breath testing targets and introducing roadside drug testing to target the highest contributing factor to fatal crashes.
