62476 (2024). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police: Further to his letter to me dated 23rd September, what are the specific activities that Police are undertaking to support Rainbow Communities?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Police is specifically undertaking the following activities to support Rainbow Communities: • Hosting weekly Rainbow Community Reassurance Hui with ongoing conversations and relationships evolving from these. • Creating Rainbow Community specific safety resources, such as the Keeping Rainbow Communities Safe resource. • Updating existing safety resources to ensure they continue to remain fit for purpose, such as the Information about family violence in rainbow relationships resource. • Established working relationships and ongoing working groups with other Police workgroups nationally and locally to align and direct different functions to work effectively in the Rainbow Community space. • Co-developing a response with Te Whatu Ora Health NZ and the Law Commission. • Adopting recommended external safety resources for DLOs and the Community. • Simplifying the process for gender affirming name and gender updates in NIA. • Upgrading the DLO Police website and intranet pages to make all resources more widely accessible. • Removing all inappropriate sex workers and gender diverse flags from our NIA system. Police remain committed to the following ongoing activities to support Rainbow Communities: • Continuing to work alongside different Rainbow groups through the Rainbow Community Reassurance Hui. • Addressing ‘deadnaming’ in Police generated correspondence. • Increasing the uptake of the Rainbow 101 online training across Police. • Providing further training for our DLO network, including utilising existing externally sourced training resources. Including more rainbow support services on AWHI (referral application).
