62414 (2024). Hon Phil Twyford to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Has the Government considered joining the case being taken by Canada, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands at the International Court of Justice alleging the Taliban have breached the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and if so has a decision been taken?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: New Zealand is gravely concerned by the human rights situation in Afghanistan and has supported efforts, in a range of fora, to address the Taliban’s human rights violations committed against women and girls. We will be following the case closely. No decision has been made by the Government on whether to join the case.
