Hon Shane Jones: Observers provide a valuable means of collecting information in the deepwater fishing fleet and other vessels not in scope of the onboard camera rollout. Observers are currently the primary verification method on these vessels and provide independent data on fishing activity. This helps to ensure that fisheries management decisions are made using the best available information.
