Hon Shane Jones: The monitoring objectives for on-board cameras are to verify protected species interactions, the use of protected species mitigation measures, and reported catch information. These objectives mirror those for observers on the majority of inshore vessels meaning that cameras can be used as the primary verification method for these vessels. On-board cameras also enable coverage over vessels where deployment of an observer is impractical, thereby providing a greater level of assurance across the inshore fleet.
