62370 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Regulation

Written Question
Published date: 08 Oct 2024
62370 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Regulation: Will the Ministry for Regulation be submitting to the Select Committee or otherwise having input on the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) (Customary Marine Title) Amendment Bill and will it "evaluate any new proposals by Government to legislate or regulate people’s person, property, or interactions with each other and the natural environment. It would make recommendations for a law to be passed or not, evaluating it against the requirement for problem definition and cost benefit analysis" as set out in ACT's policy documentation?
Hon David Seymour: As the Member is aware, the Ministry for Regulation was established only seven months ago, and the policy work on how it will increase the quality of new and existing regulation is still underway. I do not anticipate that the Ministry will fulfil this function by submitting to Select Committees. Officials advise that the Ministry has not had input on the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) (Customary Marine Title) Amendment Bill, and does not intend to submit to the Select Committee.
