62353 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What steps does Education Payroll Limited, if any, take to consult their alleged wage overpayment debtors, to ensure that their alleged claims are accurate, and that the assumptions made during payroll are correct, complete and lawful?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that Education Payroll Limited (EPL) has a step-by-step process to work with debtors, including attempts to make contact via phone, email or letter before progressing to a debt collection agency. Throughout this process, if any aspect of the overpayment is disputed, EPL promptly contacts the debtor to clarify instructions and address any concerns. EPL’s aim is to ensure transparency and fairness at every stage of communication.
