61597 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: What current policies, if any, does the Minister's department, if any, have on working from home or flexible working arrangements?

Hon Mark Mitchell: Corrections is one of New Zealand’s largest core government agencies, employing over 10,000 staff, the majority of which are deployed in frontline roles across 17 Corrections-managed prisons and many more Community Corrections sites. While several nationally held policies guide and support the establishment and ongoing management of Corrections’ flexible working arrangements, given the large number of differing roles employed by Corrections (e.g. corrections officers, nurses, probation officers), working arrangements and policies may differ between business units, teams and roles. To provide a comprehensive list of any applicable policies would involve substantial collation and manual analysis as this information is not centrally recorded. I am not prepared to ask my officials to carry out this task for the purposes of this response. However, some of the nationally held policies and procedures relevant to the member’s question include: • Flexible Working Policy – December 2020 • Department of Corrections/PSA Community Corrections Collective Agreement (2022 – 2024) • Department of Corrections/PSA Psychologist Collective Agreement (2023 – 2024)
