61517 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education
Written Question
Published date: 07 Oct 2024
61517 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education: Will any applications for Charter Schools be progressed past Stage 1 prior to the Education and Training Amendment Bill being passed; if so, who is progressing them as the Authorisation Board is not yet established?
Hon David Seymour: The Authorisation Board, when it takes office when the Bill is enacted, will consider all applications.
The Charter Schools Agency (the Agency) will make recommendations to the Authorisation Board on which applications to take through to the next stage. Applicants have been advised of what the Agency will be recommending.
Only the Board can approve charter school sponsors. It is the Agency’s role to provide comprehensive support to enable the Authorisation Board to make statutory decisions in respect of the establishment of charter schools.
