61466 (2024). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: How many migrant exploitation complaints were received by the Labour Inspectorate in 2023/24, and how many of these, if any, were investigated?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Employment Services received 3,925 Migrant Exploitation complaints in the 2023/24 year.* These complaints are assessed by Employment Services on behalf of the Labour Inspectorate and Immigration New Zealand; there are a range of pathways complaints may take. Assessed complaints may be allocated to the Labour Inspectorate for investigation, or to other agencies and teams such as Immigration New Zealand, Police, or Employment Mediation. In the 2023/24 year, 451 migrant exploitation complaints were allocated to Labour Inspectorate teams for investigation. *note complaints are received and assessed by the Triage and Allocation function of Employment Services.
