61462 (2024). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: How many migrant exploitation complaints were received by the Labour Inspectorate in 2023/24, and how many of these, if any, led to the complainant being granted a Migrant Exploitation Protection Work Visa?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Employment Services received 3,925 migrant exploitation complaints in the 2023/24 year.*
Employment Services assessed 3,067 Migrant Exploitation Assessment Requests, and issued 2,118 Report of Exploitation Assessment Letters (RoEAL). Report of Exploitation Assessment Letters are required for temporary migrants to then apply for a Migrant Exploitation Protection Work Visa (MEPV) with Immigration New Zealand.
Immigration New Zealand received 2,366 MEPV applications and approved 2,070 in the 2023/24 year. Only MEPV applications including an RoEAL are able to be approved.
