Hon Brooke van Velden: Employment Services received 3,925 migrant exploitation complaints in the 2023/24 year.* Employment Services assessed 3,067 Migrant Exploitation Assessment Requests, and issued 2,118 Report of Exploitation Assessment Letters (RoEAL). Report of Exploitation Assessment Letters are required for temporary migrants to then apply for a Migrant Exploitation Protection Work Visa (MEPV) with Immigration New Zealand. Immigration New Zealand received 2,366 MEPV applications and approved 2,070 in the 2023/24 year. Only MEPV applications including an RoEAL are able to be approved. *note complaints are received and assessed by the Triage and Allocation function of Employment Services.
