60210 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: What progress, if any, was made in the quarter April to June 2024 to ‘Consider additional population approaches to achieve and maintain a healthy weight’ under Outcome 3: New Zealanders have fewer cancers, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that the Government Policy Statement on Health sets out the Government’s focus on accelerating action to prevent and address non-communicable diseases, including cancer. I am further advised that Ministers have received advice from the Public Health Agency on evidence-based approaches to address five modifiable risk factors (alcohol, tobacco, poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and adverse social and environmental factors) and are working with the Public Health Agency to identify and progress priority actions.
