60205 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, was made in the quarter April to June 2024 to make HPV screening available outside clinical settings (e.g., self-testing in the home or community)?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the April to June 2024 quarter, training modules were developed for unregistered staff to support people to self-test under a professional partnership with an accredited cervical sample-taker clinician.
I am also advised that the large research study in metro Auckland, investigating pathways outside clinical settings was completed during the quarter. This study investigated the use of telehealth/mail-out of HPV self-test kits, and community outreach options through workplaces, pharmacies, gym classes, and other community events. The research will inform future decisions on expanding HPV self-testing.
