60185 (2024). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: What is/are the title(s) of any briefing(s), email(s), report(s), or other advice, if any, he has received that support the claim that the proposed Setting of Speed Limits Rule (2024) "aligns with those of other high-income countries that have the lowest rates of road deaths—including Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Japan, Denmark, and the United Kingdom, where these six countries all have default speed limits of 50 kilometres per hour or more on urban roads, with exceptions for lower speeds."?
Hon Simeon Brown: The Ministry of Transport has advised that Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Japan, Denmark, and England have speed limits of 50km/h on urban roads. This is based on the 2023 European Commission Road Safety Observatory country profiles, the International Transport Forum’s report titled: Road Safety Annual Report 2023, and the European Commission’s 2024 road safety profiles.
