60177 (2024). Kahurangi Carter to the Minister for Children: What advice, if any, has she and her office seen regarding the fact that in 2022/23 approximately one third of all caregivers were not approved prior to having children and young people placed in their care?

Hon Karen Chhour: I have seen the Independent Children’s Monitor’s ‘Experiences of Care in Aotearoa’ report, published in February 2024, which showed that the percentage of caregivers who received the support described in their support plan had increased from 48 percent in 2021/2022, to 79 percent in 2022/2023.
