60095 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Education: What strategies will be put in place to ensure that English medium schools engage effectively with Māori communities to meet the aspirations of Māori learners and whānau?
Hon Erica Stanford: I have high expectations for the achievement of our Māori students. I recognise that developing educationally powerful connections between learners, whānau and schools is crucial to address the equity challenges experienced by Māori learners in English medium education settings and accelerate their education outcomes. The Ministry is drawing from the existing evidence base about what works for Māori students’ achievement in English medium education settings set out in Ka Hikitia – Ka Hāpaitia (Ka Hikitia) to inform the development of the Māori Education Action Plan.
