60046 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister of Conservation: Does the Minister intend to establish the new Great Walk this term?

Hon Tama Potaka: While I understand the potential value of a Great Walk at Waiau-Toa/ Molesworth , I have not asked the Department of Conservation to prioritise this work. I have asked the Department to explore other opportunities in this area and have recently approved International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy funding for Short Walks and Day Hikes, including the option of upgrading the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. I expect the Department to explore with iwi, District Councils and others how to bring more visitors to the region.
