59994 (2024). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister for Resources: What evidence and advice, if any, has the Minister seen from officials and environmental experts about the environmental impact’s seabed mining has on marine environments?

Hon Shane Jones: All mining activities have an impact on the environment. The specific impacts of any particular seabed mining development will be unique. Environmental impacts are considered under the Resource Management Act 1991 or Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Act 2012, by decision makers tasked with assessing applications.
