59974 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Education: What guidelines, if any, are used by educators to provide support for a neurodiverse student in Early Childhood Education, and what treatment management, if any, is applied for them?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that the early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, sets out expectations of inclusive and responsive practice that acknowledges diversity. Further information can be found here: https://tewhariki.tki.org.nz There are a range of other supports available for children with diverse needs, through the Ministry’s Early Intervention Service and contracted providers. These services work with educators, children and whānau to support children’s participation and learning. Treatment management is a medical term and is not used within early childhood education.
