59811 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister responsible for the GCSB: What is the total sum, if any, of projected future spend on redundancy payments to staff at ministries, departments and agencies, if any, for which the Minister is responsible as at 17 September 2024, by month and agency?

Hon Judith Collins: As noted in my response to WPQ 41128 (2024), the GCSB and NZSIS are undertaking a joint work programme to ensure their financial sustainability in the longer term. This is separate from the efficiency savings sought by Ministers through the Budget 2024 process. As at 23 September 2024 this agency-led work is still underway, with decisions still to be taken. It is unknown at this stage whether this work will result in redundancies. I am advised that the consultation document did not propose an overall reduction in staff numbers for either agency.
