59715 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Education: What advice, information, briefings, or reports is the Minister or their office aware of, if any, listed by title, date, and agency, regarding the development of curriculum inclusive of neurodiverse students in high schools?
Hon Erica Stanford: I have received the following reports from the Ministry of Education that outline the overarching design principles for the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA), respectively: • 12 April 2024 – Education Report: Design for The New Zealand Curriculum change programme • 30 April 2024 – Education Report: Timeline and Design for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa rewrite. These make clear that the updated NZC and TMoA will support and empower all students from Years 0 to 13, including neurodiverse students, to learn and achieve personal excellence, regardless of their individual circumstances. Coupled with wider action across my education priorities, I expect that work to establish a knowledge-rich curriculum grounded in the science of learning will benefit more students than the current approach.
