59217 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: What recent advice, if any, has the Minister received from MBIE regarding compliance risks associated with permitting overseas building products in New Zealand?

Hon Chris Penk: I have been briefed by officials on how MBIE manages building product complaints. This includes the investigation of offences of false, misleading and unsubstantiated claims about building products, powers to compel information and information sharing, and the ability to issue a warning or ban on the use of a building product. Reporting on the new overseas building products pathways will also be incorporated into MBIE's quarterly updates to my office.
