Hon Chris Penk: Removing Auckland, Northland and the Chatham Islands from the earthquake-prone building (EPB) system reduces compliance and administrative costs for building owners and territorial authorities. For Auckland, these avoided costs are estimated at around $4.5 billion. No EPBs have been identified in Northland or the Chatham Islands to date, so there are currently no savings in those regions.
