59145 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Is the testing of consumer products for importation into New Zealand for asbestos contamination covered by any legislation, if so, what?

Hon Scott Simpson: Under the Imports and Exports (Asbestos containing Products) Prohibition Order 2016, it is illegal to import asbestos containing products into New Zealand without a permit. I therefore expect suppliers to take all necessary steps to ensure compliance with this requirement, including carrying out appropriate testing of their products.
