58996 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: Why has the Minister disestablished the Lottery Significant Projects Distribution Committee?

Hon Brooke van Velden: The Lottery Significant Projects (LSP) committee has been in recess since 2023/24, primarily due to regular undersubscription. Analysis also showed that most LSP grants did not align with the Board’s intended outcomes, and those that did could have been considered by other lottery committees. During the LSP committee’s recess, several potential LSP applications were successfully redirected to other committees, demonstrating that the fund’s purpose could be met elsewhere. Disestablishing the committee simplifies the overall committee structure with little effect on applicants. The Board endorsed this change at its 10 April 2025 meeting.
