Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: How much, if anything, separate to the ongoing historic claims processes, did the Ministry of Social Development spend on responding to the Royal Commission into Abuse in Care’s report in the financial year 2024/2025, listed by expenditure item?

Hon Louise Upston: The Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) has advised me that to support the Government’s response to the report of the Royal Commission into Abuse in Care, the Ministry has spent $503,044 in strategy and policy staffing costs across the Historic Claims and Policy teams. This does not include Historic Claims staff performing other duties such as assessing claims or top ups.
