58946 (2025). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: Does he agree with the conclusion of the BDO report commissioned by the Government-owned AsureQuality that the proposed changes to red meat inspection would result in higher overall costs for meat processors?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: The proposal is one for the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to make the final decision on as an operational matter. MPI is currently consulting on the draft Animal Products Notices, which closes on 23 January 2026, and will consider all submissions and feedback received, including any matters relating to costs, before making final decisions in early 2026.
