58943 (2025). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: What advice, if any, has he requested or received regarding the BDO estimate that annual inspection costs for a single-chain beef processing plant could increase from $861,000 to $1.07 million, with additional set-up costs of $343,000 per plant?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I have not requested or received any specific advice from the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) on the matter. MPI is currently consulting on the draft Animal Products Notices, which closes on 23 January 2026, and will consider all submissions and feedback, including cost estimates provided by stakeholders, before making any final decisions in early 2026.
