58939 (2025). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: What consideration, if any, has he given to the impact of the proposal to transfer meat inspection responsibilities from AsureQuality to meat processing companies on meat inspectors currently employed by AsureQuality?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: The proposal is one for the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to make the final decision on as an operational matter. MPI is currently consulting on the draft Animal Products Notices, which closes on 23 January 2026, and will consider all submissions and feedback received, including any matters relating to workforce impacts, before making final decisions in early 2026.
