58841 (2025). Mike Davidson to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How many people now reside outside of the 8-minute response time window for Fire Stations, and what was the number before the Hutt City Fire Station was closed in 2021?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised by Fire and Emergency that the estimated number of people who reside outside of the 8-minute response time window, but would not do so if Hutt City Fire Station was currently open, is 16,200. However, this is an approximate figure based on modelling and is not exact.
I am assured by Fire and Emergency that the arrangements they have had in place since the closure of the Hutt City site are fit for purpose. The former Hutt City Station crews are still responding to Hutt City incidents from Avalon, and the Hutt City coverage area is adequately supported by other stations.
