58767 (2025). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister for Child Poverty Reduction: What steps is she taking to ensure that housing affordability and quality are factored into child poverty reduction strategies?
Hon Louise Upston: I consider a range of factors as part of work to reduce child poverty, including housing.
I have set Housing Affordability as a Child Poverty Related Indicator (CPRI). The CPRIs are measures related to the broader causes, consequences and correlates of child poverty.
The CPRIs are focused on tackling the deeper drivers of disadvantage, to achieve reductions in poverty rates over the long term. Cabinet has agreed that agencies should be responsible for working together to achieve measurable improvements in the CPRIs over time, as part of making progress towards relevant Government Targets.
I report on progress on this indicator annually, through the Annual Report on the Child and Youth Strategy and the CPRIs.
