Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister for Child Poverty Reduction: Does the Minister consider it acceptable, in the context of the Government’s statutory child poverty reduction targets, that families with young children who are facing imminent homelessness are being told they are not eligible for emergency housing; if so, why?

Hon Louise Upston: MSD will continue to approve applications for Emergency Housing Grants where people experience a genuine need and are willing to meet their emergency housing responsibilities. Where people are ineligible for an Emergency Housing Grant, MSD will continue to work with them to ensure they are receiving all the support they are entitled to.
