58179 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Corrections: How many, if any, pre-sentencing reports have been required for a sole parent requiring care for their child since 1 March 2024?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that to accurately answer the member’s question, Corrections would be required to review the individual files of every person that has required a pre-sentence report since March 2024. This would involve substantial collation and research of many thousands of reports, which I am not prepared to ask of my officials for the purposes of this response. I am further advised that Corrections is committed to enhancing their capability to effectively report on people in Corrections’ management. In March 2024, Corrections began to record information around whether people who have pre-sentence reports prepared for the Courts are primary caregivers of a dependent child or vulnerable adult. The information gathered does not distinguish between primary caregivers of dependent children or vulnerable adults. I am further advised that the information gathered to date is not complete as it may be unknown or not disclosed in some cases as Corrections is continuing to embed this process. There are no current plans to report specifically on sole parents. This is also my response to WPQ 58184 (2024).
