Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister of Transport: What official advice (excluding advice sourced from the Motor Industry Association), if any, has the Minister received on the number and proportion of light vehicles that were forecast in 2025 to comply with or have emissions lower than the previous targets under the Clean Car Standard, which were repealed under the Land Transport (Clean Vehicle Standard) Amendment Act 2024?

Hon Simeon Brown: The official advice I received highlighted that previous targets (2026 & 2027 for light passenger vehicles, and 2025-2027 for light commercial vehicles) were not achievable for vehicle importers as they would face significant risks of not being able to secure a sufficient supply at affordable prices. This advice included feedback received from the Motor Industry Association and the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association.
