Hon Andrew Hoggard: Avian influenza is a viral disease that can cause organ failure and sudden death in birds. As management options are limited, the best option is to protect populations from getting infected with bird flu. The Ministry for Primary Industries’ website has advice for domestic poultry and the Department of Conservation lists measures to protect wild birds
