Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: How much, if any, has the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, budgeted on christmas, holiday, end of year, and any other types of celebratory functions or parties during November and December in 2025?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections does not budget Christmas/holiday/end of year function expenditures in a single identifiable category in Corrections’ ledger. I am further advised that extracting this information across the years 2020 to 2025 would require substantial collation across multiple teams, including the separation of other budgeted staff costs over this period, which I am not prepared to ask officials to complete. However, I can confirm that the applicable rules and rates outlined in Corrections’ Sensitive Expenditure policy remained broadly consistent throughout these years. In particular: • a maximum limit of $25 per person applies for food and non-alcoholic drinks; • the purchase of alcohol is not permitted; and • prior approval for the end-of-year function expenditure from an ELT member is required.
