58032 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What is the total cost per annum of a High Court Judge (excluding any special roles or duties); how much of that sum is in benefits which accrue to the judge (such as salaries, superannuation, allowances etc)?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised it is not possible to provide a total cost of a High Court Judge, inclusive of costs associated with supporting the role, such as property and IT costs, as this information is not available. Judicial salaries, superannuation and allowances are publicly available in the Judicial Officers Salaries and Allowances (2023/24) Determination 2023 and Judicial Officers Superannuation Determination 2019. The annual salary of a High Court Judge on and after 1 October 2023 is $502,400. On 30 April 2024, the Chief Justice, with the agreement and support of the Attorney-General, released the detailed terms and conditions of judicial appointment for the senior courts and Employment Court. They are publicly available on the Courts of NZ Website.
