58029 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Was the Te Ao Marama programme initially planned to be in 13 court locations, if so has this been scaled back and why?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: Te Ao Mārama was initially intended to be implemented in 13 District Court locations. Through Budget 2024 it was agreed that the implementation of Te Ao Mārama will focus on the eight locations where work is advanced while the Ministry gathers information on the effectiveness of the Te Ao Mārama interventions.
This focus upholds the commitments already made to iwi and communities in the eight locations. Delivering Te Ao Mārama in those eight locations will help build the evidence base about what works well, and what difference Te Ao Mārama is achieving.
The eight locations in-scope of this initiative are: Kaitāia, Kaikohe, Whangārei, Hamilton, Tauranga, Gisborne, Napier and Hastings.
