58008 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What was the first instance of the Creatives in Schools Programme being identified as having been "established in response to COVID-19"; listed by advice title, date, and name of the individual/team/organisation?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that Creatives in Schools (CiS) was established in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic [CAB-19-MIN-0174 refers]. The initiative was subsequently expanded through the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund (CRRF).
I refer the Member to the Cabinet minute confirming the establishment of CiS as part of Budget 19, which is publicly available at https://www.treasury.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2019-08/b19-4103336.pdf.
I also refer the Member to the publicly available briefing, Progress in implementing all Vote Education initiatives funded by the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund (received 7 December 2020 by Rt Hon Chris Hipkins and Hon Grant Robertson), which provides further information on the expansion of CiS through the CRRF. This briefing is publicly available at https://assets.education.govt.nz/public/Documents/our-work/information-releases/Advice-Seen-by-our-Ministers/01-2020/30.-METIS-1244473-Progress-implementing-initiatives-funded-by-CRRF_Redacted.pdf.
Please note that there was an error in the Budget 2024 Savings Comms template, which incorrectly stated that CiS was established in response to COVID-19.
