57979 (2024). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: What work, if any, is underway to amend and/or reform the Wildlife Act 1953?

Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation began a first principles review of the Wildlife Act 1953 in 2022, and Cabinet agreed in 2023 that the Act will be repealed and replaced with modern, fit-for-purpose legislation. Work in 2024 and 2025 will focus on developing a public consultation document with options for a new species Act.
