57940 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Associate Minister of Housing

57940 (2024). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many families or individuals, if any, have been taken off the Ministry of Social Development's housing waitlist from December 2023 to August 2024, in Porirua?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development that from the period 1 December 2023 to 31 August 2024, 369 primary applicants exited from the social housing register in the Porirua Territorial Authority. Of those, 192 were housed in social housing, while 177 primary applicants were recorded as having exited for the following reasons: - They are no longer eligible to be allocated social housing. - They were unable to confirm eligibility. - They no longer require social housing. - The Ministry was unable to contact the client, or the client did not supply the requested documents. - The applicant is deceased. The Ministry is constantly working to improve its ability to track the housing outcomes of those exiting emergency housing and the Social Housing register. While the Ministry’s understanding of client outcomes is improving daily, it is unlikely that the Ministry will ever achieve a complete view because individuals are not required to let the Ministry know where they live once they stop receiving assistance or exit the Housing Register. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 57939 (2024).
