57923 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What support, if any, does the Ministry of Education provide to excluded ākonga and whānau of excluded ākonga when a principal has not found another school within 10 school days for the excluded ākonga to attend; listed by support provided?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that following an exclusion, if the principal has not found another school within 10 school days for the excluded ākonga to attend, regional Ministry staff will work through what’s best for the ākonga with the school, the ākonga, whānau and other agencies. Ministry staff are available to assist in finding an alternative school for students where a principal has not been successful in doing so. For some students, specific accommodations and supports will be required (temporarily or on an ongoing basis) to meet their well-being and learning needs following an exclusion. The available supports will vary depending on the specific situation.
