57903 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister for Courts: Are further reforms to the use of audio visual communications in courts planned; if so will victims always be able to attend in person, with the offender/accused in person at trials and sentencing if they choose to?
Hon Nicole McKee: The use of audio-visual links in court proceedings is governed by the Courts (Remote Participation) Act 2010. The Government is undertaking a first principles review of that Act to identify a modern, fit-for-purpose regime that enables increased use of remote participation in court, enhances access to justice and promotes efficiency, without compromising the interests of justice. Officials are currently undertaking policy analysis to identify options for change.
