57891 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Prime Minister: How many contractors, if any, did the Minister's departments have on 9 September 2024; and how many of them, if any, were former employees of the department that lost their roles or resigned from their roles since 27 November 2023?
Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: I am advised that the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) has information on the number of consultants and contractors engaged by DPMC and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as part of select committee reporting. This can be found on the Parliament website at: Vote PMC 2024/2025 Estimates Examination. The number of consultants and contractors are available in responses provided as part of the 2024/25 Estimates Review written answers. This provides the numbers of DPMC and NEMA contractors and consultants engaged for the financial years 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 (as at 31 March 2024). DPMC and NEMA do not expect to engage previous employees of DPMC as contractors or consultants in 2024/25. The Estimates Review written answers sets out the number of consultants, contractors or people providing professional services contracted in 2023/24 and the past two financial years who were previously employed by DPMC. No consultants, contractors or people providing professional services previously employed by NEMA or Chief Executive, Cyclone Recovery were contracted in 2023/24. I refer the Member to my agencies’ Annual Review Written Answers, which are publicly available on Parliament’s website at: Vote PMC 2024/2025 Estimates Examination. More recent information on the engagement of contractors and consultants will be made publicly available through DPMC’s responses to the Annual Review later in the year.
