57867 (2024). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Police: How many contractors, if any, did the Minister's departments have on 9 September 2024; and how many of them, if any, were former employees of the department that lost their roles or resigned from their roles since 27 November 2023?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that due to current system limitations, contractor volume information needs to be manually compiled and reconciled. Due to the effort required, Police report the number of contractors and their associated spend once annually at the end of the financial year. I am further advised that Police’s policy is that former employees cannot be engaged as contractors within six months of finishing employment. This is a manual check completed as part of contractor engagement. Contractor records are not linked to employment records therefore, Police is unable to report on how many contractors have previously been employees on certain dates. In regards to the Serous Fraud Office (SFO), The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has two active contractors at as 9 Sept 2024. Neither of those individuals are former employees of the SFO who have lost their roles or resigned from their roles since 27 November 2023. Information about SFO contractors as at 27 November 2023 is publicly available in the SFO Vote Serious Fraud Estimates questionnaire.
