Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister accept the Commerce Commission’s analysis in its Annual Grocery Report of 4 September 2024 that the supermarket duopoly is making an extra $372 million profit per year than the Commission would expect in a workably competitive market?

Hon Andrew Bayly: The Grocery Commissioner’s Annual Grocery Report makes it clear that competition is not working well in the grocery sector and that the duopoly remain highly profitable. I support the Commerce Commission’s work to require the duopoly to disclose information about their margins.
